The inspirational documentary filmmaker Robert Flaherty (1884-1951) provides a complex and rich perspective from which to explore contradictions and paradoxes. The FTT investigates aspects of Flaherty’s practice in order to produce new approaches to creative work with film students, combining reflection with practice.
About us
The FTT is an independent organisation of experts who collaborate to produce new ideas and launch fresh initiatives in the field of teaching documentary filmmaking. Its aim is to create collaborations between institutions and the professional world: extracurricular spaces where different approaches to teaching and documentary filmmaking cross fertilise, a tradition already shared through the film school networks GEECT and CILECT.

Workshops and Seminars
The FTT organises yearly seminars, workshops and reflection weeks. The annual seminar focuses on one aspect of documentary practice in film education. The Lisbon seminar in February 2022 emphasised the importance and the outcome of fieldwork, often limited in today’s production schedules at film schools.
